Egyptian Nights

"Egyptian Nights"

I painted this piece a few months back for the back cover of the MidFur conbook, to announce the new reincarnation of MidFur!

The new convention will be January 10-12th 2014, in Melbourne at the Convention and Exhibition Center in Australia--and you'll definitely find me there!

Curious about the new name of the convention? It hasn't been decided yet! You can add your suggestion, and if it's chosen, you will win a life time membership to the convention!

Back, & Prints/Stuff for Sale!

I have returned, spiritually refreshed by my distant sojourn, and relaxed from a few lazy days of vacation and recuperation from said vacation! The last few weeks, I’ve sprawled on beaches, hiked mountains, played with molten lava, driven down rivers, and enjoyed a lot of world-class fish-viewing (and eating). I will add, however, the return to 20 degree temperatures and snow on the ground was jarring and unpleasant. ;]

In my absence, it seems like all the trees now have lights, holiday music has begun its infiltration of radio stations, and the gift-hunting frenzy is on the rise.

So! A couple things, if you’re at a loss!

The Werewolf Calendar for 2013 makes a great gift for anyone, packed with art, and it also won’t be available for much longer! Check out all of the awesome artwork here, or click here to order today!

Sofawolf Press is having a huge holiday sale through December 21st!
Included, of course, is Nordguard: Across Thin Ice (in both hard and soft covers,) Out of Position and Isolation Play by Kyell Gold (if you’ve been waiting to read, now’s a good time to start, since the third book, Divisions, will be coming out early 2013!)
There’s also Lynn Hogan’s dark fantasy, full color graphic novel, Prydwen, all six volumes of Ursula Vernon’s recently Hugo Winning series Digger, and novels by Michael H. Payne, and M.C.A. Hogarth!

Lastly, my own stuff!
I have some matted prints left over from various conventions, so I figure it’s a good time to try and make room for new stuff next year!
Check ‘em out here! They are first come, first serve, and very limited quantities (pretty much one of each.) I’ll cut off sales Tuesday the 18th, just to be sure I can get anything that sells in the post before the holidays. All the rest of the information you’ll need, you can find right here!

I also have Nordguard Patches on hand again! They are $6 per, shipping is $2/$3 USA/Overseas. More info over here!

Now... back to art with me!

Cheers, and stay warm!

Divisions

"Divisions"

Here's one of the pieces that's kept me quite busy over the last few weeks! :]

This is the cover for Kyell Gold's newest novel, Divisions--the third in the Out of Position series of books, following the journey of Lee the fox, and Dev the tiger. Here's Kyell's official announcement about the title!

You can find out more about the books over on Kyell's website, over here!

I also did ten interior illustrations, plus chapter heads for the book.

Divisions will be available through Sofawolf Press, making it's debut at FurtherConfusion in January!

Apocalypse Party

It's the end of the world, so you might as well make it a party!

The Sponsor Badge, and Regular Attendee Badge, for MiDFur: The Furry Apocalypse!
As you can see, they join together, and Sponsors get both!

I went with a dingo as the MiDFuR charity will benefit the Australian Dingo Foundation, and a 'roo since 'roos are pretty awesome.

Oh! And, if you're planning on headed to MiDFur and would like to guarantee getting any books from the Sofawolf Press catalog at the convention (and avoid steep shipping fees,) check this out!

The Last Weeks; The Upcoming Weeks

The last couple of weeks have been busy ones, split between working on an assortment of projects, personal time and social calls. The most notable of things I’ve been working on has been the interior illustrations and cover artwork for Kyell Gold’s upcoming novel, the third book in the Out of Position series. Kyell has not yet make the official announcement just yet, releasing the title of the new book, but that will be soon when I’ve finished up the cover!

Keep an eye out next week (either here, or @screwbald on Twitter,) since I’ll probably LiveStream painting one of the interior illustrations, and Kyell will jump on the chat to answer questions about the book, writing, or life in general!

In the upcoming weeks, I will actually be at Midwest Furfest! I wasn’t planning on it until fairly recently, but you’ll still find me in the dealer’s den, most likely camping a corner of the Sofawolf Press tables!

The reason for the schedule change is a rather unfortunate one. While I will be at MWFF in November, I cannot travel to MidFur this December as planned due to circumstances entirely out of my control. Don’t worry though! The convention has the ever-awesome and wonderful Dark Natasha stepping up to take my place! And in 2013 you will find me there, hell or high water!

Oh, and just a note for you Australians: If you are going to MidFur, and you’d like to get any books from the Sofawolf Press catalog—which includes Nordguard: Across Thin Ice, Dog’s Days of Summer, HEAT Vol. 1-9, or many of Kyell Gold’s titles, check this out! You can pre-order books/comics for pick up at the convention, and save a substantial amount on shipping!
(By the way, Kyell Gold will also be at MiDFur, so you can get your books signed! Just sayin’…!)

Between other art-things, Scratches Vol. 6 has been coming along, slow but steady. My aim is to have it out for MFF, but some things you can’t rush.

Also, I apologize if anyone has emailed or noted in the last couple weeks and I haven’t responded. I fell behind on email and contact with the outside world, and it’s been a slow recovery to normal!

Speaking of which, time to finish the rest of these OOP3 illustrations…!

Commissions; Charity Ladder Auction

People ask every now and then about commissions, or prices, and I figured I'd make a quick note about it!

I don't actually do commissions! The reason for this is largely due to a lack of spare time. My days are spent mainly on comics, artwork for various projects or publications, or just illustrations I feel like painting for myself or close friends. I haven't openly taken commissions in over four years, aside from the occasional sketch commission at smaller conventions.

Not that I mind folks asking at all! I figured a blanket statement might spare some people a little time when looking for an artist. :]

However, on that note, I am offering a single character sketch as part of a charity ladder auction to benefit a local shelter, Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue!

100% of proceeds benefit the charity!
Auction ends on Sept. 30th!

My sketch offer is just a drop in the pond compared to all the wonderful and awesome stuff in the auction. Here's just a few of the listings: Fursuit partial from Jillcostumes, a full color piece from Tani DaReal, badges from various artists like Mary Mouse, Henrieke, and Idess, surprise pottery by Dingbat... really, this is just a couple of the things the winner receives!

Check out the auction for the full listing, and more information on the Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue!

Black Wolf

A small, badge-sized (3"x4") black wolf I painted, both as a break from other stuff and to play around with a bit of metallic paint.

The original will likely end up at the EuroFurence art show in a few weeks, so check it out!

You can see a sped-up/time lapsed video of me painting this image on LiveStream, right here!

MiDFUR Apocalypse Shirt

Finishing this up has kept me busy and out of trouble for the last couple of days! It's the t-shirt design for the upcoming MiDFUR convention in Melbourne Australia, this December. Their theme is the "Furry Apocalypse Cometh," so I figured a design based around the Aztec calendar (and its "end") was in order!

The shirts are available for pre-order on the MiDFUR BigCartel website, for those who are interested!

(Also, I'll be on LiveStream later tonight, painting the regular attendee and sponsor badges for MidFUR. Follow @screwbald on Twitter to know when I start, or just drop in to my LiveStream channel around 8PM MST!)

ComicCon, Sofawolf Press & Free Stuff!

ComicCon International in San Diego begins in just a couple of days!

We're always excited for CCI, especially this year. In cased you missed it, Teagan Gavet, the author/layout/penciling half, has been nominated for the Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer for her work on Nordguard: Across Thin Ice. The nomination in itself is a huge honor, and competition is steep, but we'll be keeping our fingers crossed this Friday at the Eisner Award ceremony when the winner of the Manning award will be announced.

Where We'll Be:

Every day of the convention, you'll be able to find us sporadically at the Sofawolf Press booth #1236 (which is in the Webcomics section of the dealer's room.) Sofawolf Press will have Across Thin Ice, free 8-page previews of the second Nordguard book (Under Dark Skies), the Nordguard Card Game, copies of Dog's Days of Summer, Art of Kenket books, plus all of their new summer releases and the bulk of their full catalog! Come check it out!

We are more than happy to sign any of our books, so feel free to watch @screwbald on Twitter to know when we'll be at the Sofawolf Press booth! You can also follow @sofawolfpress on Twitter to find out when other Sofawolf creative will be on hand to sign books, such as Kyell Gold, Lynn Hogan (author/artist of Prydwen), Mandi Tremblay (author/artist of Peachy Keen,) and Kamui, the cover artist for many of Sofawolf's publications.

Free Stuff:

Aside from the free 8-page preview of the next Nordguard book, Under Dark Skies, Sofawolf will be giving out different buttons on different days of the convention, featuring either Pi, London, Nickel from Nordguard, or Diego and Bayshore from Dog's Days! Supplies will be limited, so stop by or follow @sofawolfpress for the heads up on free stuff!

There's also going to be a free preview of Spain Fischer's upcoming comic, Caterwall!

Also, when we're at the Sofawolf table to sign, we will be giving out a special, collector card for the Nordguard Card Game, the "White Bear!" event card! This card is not included in the original decks, and this will be it's first release! If you are unable to get one from us at CCI, we'll have some with us at other conventions throughout this year and the next!

So, once again, feel free to follow us @screwbald on Twitter to know when we're signing/giving out stuff!

Have a great week!

Cheers,

-Blotch

White Wolf

I couldn't sleep last night, so this quick painting is brought to you by insomnia!

It's based on a photo of one of the wolves at the Conservator's Center Inc. Back in March, the folks from CCI gave me a CD full of a million photos of their animals to paint. :]

I Lick You

 "I Lick You."

I felt like taking a break from serious art-stuff, so this happened. An unrelated sequel to the picture I like you, I suppose!

Endurance

"Endurance"

Some African Wild Hunting Dogs I started painting months ago... They had been sitting around near-complete for a long time. A few days ago, I finally found a little spare time to finish 'em.

Acrylic, 13x15ish on wood.

Spring Cleaning/Art for Sale!

I have a few paintings sitting around in storage boxes, not doing too much besides taking up space. I suspect it’s time to let them go in the name of Spring Cleaning!

“FA United” – Woah, blast from the past. This piece is from 2007, and was the cover for FurAffinity’s very first convention. The page is 18x12” (the actual painted image is 17x11 on the page.) It’s painted in watercolour and acrylic on Arches 140lbs hot press watercolour paper, signed and stamped on the back. You can see some photos of the original on the auction!
Fun facts: Jack from Dog’s Days of Summer is hidden in the crowd, it features over 40 characters, and is an Ursa Major winner from 2007!

Check out the auction for “FA United” on eBay, here!

===
“Lemmikki Paws” – This is a piece I painted last year. It’s acrylic on wood, 13x9” in size, and signed on the back. Check out the photos of the original on the auction, below! (If you need more cute husky art in your life, this is the piece for you!)

Check out the auction for “Lemikki Paws” on eBay, here!

Thanks for looking, and thanks again for bidding if you wish to! :]

FWA and Atlanta Bound!

This afternoon I will be boarding a plane bound for Furry Weekend Atlanta!

During the day, you'll be able to find me at my table in the dealer's room!

I will have Nordguard patches and stickers, prints of all shapes, sizes and prices, Scratches CDs, plus a few original sketches for sale at the table. (I will also have a some sketches and marker pieces that are curiously badge-sized, which have found themselves tucked into sleeves, ready to wear!)

They're each 3x4", done in marker, pencil, ink and a little bit of paint.

There will be copies of Nordguard: Across Thin Ice for sale, and Dog's Days of Summer!

I don't have anything in the FWA art show this year. However, the tiger I painted, "Persevere," will be in the charity auction! All proceeds from it's sale will benefit the animals at CCI!

A photo of the painting!

In other news, this Friday at FWA is the debut of Kyell Gold's newest novel, Green Fairy! (Here's an excerpt!)
Not to mention, it will also be the first print appearance of Rukis and AlectorFencer's graphic novel Red Lantern! Since both Rukis and Kyell will be in attendance as Guests of Honor, they would be really happy to sign everything, I am sure. ;]

(And don't fret--if you won't be at FWA, you can order Green Fairy, Red Lantern, Across Thin Ice and a ton of more stuff from Sofawolf Press' website! Fill all of your bookshelves with talking animals!)

Hope to see you there!

Drust on the Run

"Drust on the Run"

This is one of five illustrations I did earlier this year for the upcoming issue of HEAT Vol. 9!

Well--technically four are brand new images for the issue. It all started a couple of years ago when friend and author Tempo321 asked permission to write a story around the Pict wolf I illustrated a few years ago, titled "The Prisoner." I told him "Sure!" and he came back with a story about the cocky wolf Drust, who runs afoul, of--well, you'll have to read the story in HEAT this summer to find out!

HEAT is intended for mature readers. The story, "The Prisoner," is written by Tempo321, male/female in orientation, and has a total of five illustration by me, printed in grey scale. Boobs abound!

Check it out this summer in HEAT Vol. 9 from Sofawolf Press, making it's debut at AnthroCon and later available online!

Persevere

I painted this tiger for Furry Weekend Atlanta's charity auction to benefit the Conservator's Center in NC. They were kind enough to supply me with some photos, and this tiger is based off a few of them. If I have time this spring, I hope to paint another one of their many animals for the auction as well! :]

The original painting will be sold at FWA's charity auction this March! All proceeds of the auction benefit the Conservator's Center!
